FAQ

What is tallow?

Tallow has had many roles throughout history before it became a recent skincare trend. It has been used to make soaps, candles, and medicinal salves for centuries as well as used in kitchens for cooking. Tallow is rendered animal fat - commonly beef suet - packed full of vitamins A, D, E, & K as well as having a unique fatty acid profile containing Palmitic Acid, Stearic Acid, Omega-9, and Omega-6. Tallow closely matches the natural oils in our skin making it deeply nourishing.

Why choose tallow over conventional skincare?

Conventional skincare often contains petroleum-based oils or silicones. These sit on top of your skin creating a film that feels smooth but doesn’t actually moisturize your skin. Tallow’s lipid profile is almost identical to human sebum (the oil your skin naturally creates). Your skin can deeply absorb tallow where as conventional skincare just masks dryness. Let’s not also forget that conventional skincare is usually made up of 60%-80% water which requires preservatives, synthetic vitamins, and a long list of ingredients you can’t even pronounce. Tallow products have a long shelf life due to no presence of water and resistance to oxidation. Tallow also naturally contains vitamins A, D, E, and K along with multiple fatty acids..

Where do you source your tallow?

We source beef kidney suet from 100% Grass-Fed cows. We always believe in supporting local ranchers first and foremost.

How do you scent your products?

We use therapeutic grade essential oils to scent most of our products. Products containing vanilla or calendula go through an infusion process which allows the consumer to benefit from the medicinal effects.

How do I store your tallow products? Do they expire?

Tallow naturally has a long shelf life. We recommend storing your tallow products in a cool, dry place out of direct sunlight. You may find your tallow products soften with heat but they will still be just as beneficial to your skin. Because tallow is a natural ingredient, we recommend using any tallow products with in 12 months.

Are tallow products greasy?

Tallow, when used correctly, should not leave a greasy residue. Like any skincare product, if you use too much, it can become slick or greasy. We recommend starting out with a pea sized amount and rub into the desired area.

Can I use tallow on my face?

All of our products contain simple ingredients and are preservative free. Most people find tallow moisturizes and smooths out their skin without causing breakouts. This is due to tallow being bio-identical to your skins natural oils. Tallow is a whole body product.

Is tallow safe for my kids?

Definitely! Our kids have used tallow for everything from dry hands to diaper rashes. Like any skincare product, it is always recommend to patch test first especially for those with sensitive skin.
